International Awareness & Involvement

DST International Awareness & Involvement Logo

Through international awareness & involvement projects, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. have been able to broaden their knowledge and understanding of nations other than their own, increase interest in international affairs, and aid in developing a greater appreciation for people of different backgrounds and cultures. The Suffolk Alumnae Chapter educates the community on current and ongoing international issues by:

Informing and educating on issues that women and girls are facing around the world

International Women’s Day (March 8th)

  • International Women’s Day is a day to join voices with people around the world to celebrate all women, in all their diversities. To shout the message for equal rights loud and clear: “Women’s rights are human rights!” Also, to embrace their facets and intersections of faith, race, ethnicity, gender or sexual identity, or disability.

International Day of the Girl Child (October 11th)

  • On International Day of the Girl (IDG), the global community comes together to celebrate the power of girls and highlight, discuss, and take action to advance the rights of and opportunities for girls everywhere.

Increasing knowledge related to HIV/AIDS (International Day of Service, World AIDS Day).

World AIDS Day (December 1st)

  • World AIDS Day is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. It’s also reserved as a day to bridge new and effective programs and policies across different sectors around HIV/AIDS.

Promoting understanding of displaced individuals

Diapers for Haitians

  • Assisting with a charity to send cloth diapers and other necessities to new mothers in Haiti.

Providing a vehicle for members to travel to international locations to experience different cultures to increase awareness of what ‘s happening around the world.
